Most Rev Gabriel Justice Anokye, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Kumasi has admonished the two newly ordained bishops for the Accra Archdiocese of the Catholic Church to ensure they discharge their duties effectively and remain true to their calling.
Pope Francis, in February appointed two auxiliary bishops namely Monsignor Anthony Narh Asare and Monsignor John Kobina Louis for the Accra Archdiocese of the Catholic church.
Delivering his homily at the episcopal ordination of the two new auxiliary bishops at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra on Wednesday (19 April), Most Rev Anokye urged them to always defend the truth.
“I must quickly add that you are never allowed by Catholic Church law (Canon 480) to act against the will and mind of your Diocesan Archbishop John Bonaventure Kwofie.”
“You are legally forbidden to be against his will, mission, wish, vision and transmission of his mission for the Accra Diocese of the Catholic Church, you cannot do that” Archbishop Anokye said.
Boosting evangelization
The ordination of two auxiliary bishops for the Accra Archdiocese of the Catholic Church will, among others, help to boost evangelisation, Very Rev Raymond Osei Tutu, chancellor of the Accra Archdiocese of the church, has said.
Speaking to Rev Akua Ofori Boateng on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (18 April) ahead of the Episcopal Ordination of the two bishops at the Holy Spirit Cathedral on Wednesday, Very Rev Osei-Tutu said the two auxiliary bishops will not usurp the role of the current archbishop.
“The two bishops are not substituting or co-sharing his very authority as the bishop of Accra. They are there and their functions will be to complement the effort of the bishop.
“The bishop can now have three confirmations, so that the work of evangelisation will not be stagnant just by human factor,” Osei-Tutu said.
