Five missing in River Offin boat capsize

At least five people have been declared missing after their boat capsized on Friday (8 October) in the River Offin at New Achiase, a farming community in the Ashanti Region.

The five victims – all males – were part of nine passengers using a boat to cross to the adjoining community when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The Atwima Mponua District Chief Executive (DCE), Isaac Kofi Marfo, was at the scene on Saturday as local divers intensify search for the victims.

Traditional rulers performed rituals at the scene on Saturday praying for divine intervention.

Akosua Addai, 52, said that her son Akwasi Okyere is part of the missing persons and can only hope for positive news.
