Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu: Suame interchange project to begin by end of 2022

The Member of Parliament for Suame, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has disclosed that the much talked about four-tier Suame interchange project will commence before the year ends.

According to him, all the necessary arrangements to pave way for the project to start are being worked on.

Speaking in an interview on Akoma FM in Kumasi, he said almost all the pre-arrangements for the project to kick start had been done. He added that all the drawing board works had also been completed, and assured that by September ending contractors would be on site.

The interchange will be the second four-tier interchange project in the country, and one of the projects under the Sino Hydro Master Project Support Agreement (MPSA) between Governments of Ghana and China.

Under the MPSA, the People’s Republic of China would build US$2 billion worth of priority infrastructure projects across Ghana, in exchange for Ghanaian manufactured aluminum products to Sinohydro.

The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, during the 2022 budget presentation in Parliament, disclosed that the Suame industrial enclave and other areas within the Greater Kumasi Metropolis would have interchanges to decongest the vehicular traffic.

Evacuation notice

The Suame lawmaker, who doubles as the Majority Leader in Parliament, explained that though the project had delayed, it is better late than never, adding that all the preparatory arrangements had been concluded.

Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu further admonished residents along the said stretch to evacuate with immediate effect.

He also called for united efforts to ensure the much touted interchange will be a reality for the benefit of all.

“We understand that a lot of people trade along the road reservation, and have been served notice. They should cooperate because we all need this project for the better; it will go a long way to help transact business with ease,” he added.

Aside the Suame interchange, others like the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange Phase2; PTC Roundabout Interchange; Nungua Interchange -Part of the La Beach Road widening Project-Lot 2; Adjiriganor Overpass; Flower Pot Interchange and Tema Motorway Interchange Phase 2 are expected to start this year.
