Maamobi residents protest against eviction

Residents living on the Maamobi market land in the Greater Accra Region have hit the street to protest against the Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly’s decision to evict them without compensation.
The said land was acquired by an executive instrument in 1963 but has since been encroached upon.

Successive governments have attempted to demolish structures on the land to pave the way for the construction of a market complex but to no avail.

The Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly has however settled on August 28 for the demolition.

The residents however say the notice for the eviction notice is short and discomfort to their livelihood, hence the protest.
