Police Chase 5 Persons Over NPP Office Attack

Police investigating an arson attack that devastated the Aowin Constituency office of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western North Region have said the perpetrators will soon be arrested to face the law.

The Aowin Divisional Police Commander, Chief Supt Samuel Okunor, said the police are closing in on five people suspected to be responsible for the arson attack, noting, “The police have gotten some information, and we are working on them.”

“We have got five names as suspects, and we have to locate where they live, and then we will pick them one by one,” he added.

The police chief wondered why the perpetrators could take such action, intimating, “The reasons are best known to them, but as we have stated, we will get to the bottom of the matter.”

He said currently the police had cordoned off the crime scene for investigations, and pointed out that it would be released to the party executives in the constituency after the investigations.

It would be recalled that over the weekend, some disgruntled supporters of the NPP in the Aowin Constituency allegedly set the party’s office ablaze, destroying documents and other office equipment in the process.

According to DAILY GUIDE sources, the angry NPP supporters burnt the office because of an alleged decision by the national council of the party to re-run the recently held constituency elections.

The NPP National Council had said the elections were fraught with irregularities, and therefore announced that elections would be conducted again, but the aggrieved supporters, who apparently disagree with the decision, expressed their disapproval by setting the party’s office on fire.

The aggrieved supporters vowed to resist every attempt to have the elections held again.

Meanwhile, the Western North Regional Chairman of the NPP, William Benjamin Assuah, said the suspects in the incident might have been instigated by some candidates who were disqualified from the recent constituency elections in the area.
