Race for Suame SeatFormer Ashanti Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Sam Pyne has stated that he is the 24th member of the party to have registered at the Suame constituency in an attempt to strengthen his bid to succeed the outgoing Member of Parliament Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
According to Mr. Sam Pyne, he has also served the party in the Suame Constituency since 1992 when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was formed till date therefore his record makes it possible for him to contest the seat.
Making a case to suggest he served well in the constituency, Mr. Sam Pyne revealed that since the formation of the party, he has voted in all Parliamentary primary elections.
“Since 1998 when the wards were changed into polling stations and when I was elected the Ashanti Regional Secretary, I was a polling station Chairman at Suame. Since 1992, I have voted in all Parliamentary primaries at Suame. I was the 24th person to register as a member of the party at Suame when it was called Old Tafo-Suame, all the cards are there, all the records are there.” Sam Pyne said this in an interview with Kumasi-based Angel FM monitored by MyNewsGH.com.
He also revealed that he was the first constituency secretary (Ward Secretary) in the area after the formation of the NPP in 1992.
“In 1992 after the party was founded, the first Ward election at the time we didn’t have polling stations, I was elected as Ward Secretary in that vast area. I contested with three other people”, he revealed
Mr. Sam Pyne has already made his intention to contest the upcoming NPP parliamentary primaries.
His bid to contest comes after the incumbent MP Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu one of the longest-serving MPs in the Fourth Republic said he is not going to contest after 2024.
