Robert “Stopper” Quaye and Nathaniel Nukpe are both on weight ahead of their super lightweight showdown Saturday night at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.

On the line in this Ace Power Promotions event is the lightly-regarded UBO super lightweight title.

Quaye, 28, 19-0 (16 KOs), came in at 140 pounds even. He last fought in March, scoring a second-round TKO over Kofi Ansah Raymond.

Not only is Quaye a heavy favorite over Nukpe (13-7-1, 13 KOs), he will have a significant size advantage as well. Nukpe tipped the scales at 134.7 pounds, a whole division lighter than his opponent. The journeyman has not fought since April 2019, when he ended a four-fight losing streak with a fourth-round TKO over Amadu Saidu.

Nevertheless, Nukpe was full of tough talk at Friday’s weigh-in which was held at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.

“He keeps disrespecting me and I have to make him pay for that,” Nukpe said. “I promise to destroy all his plans in the ring and he should watch out for that.

“It is going to be a great show and I want everyone to come on time to watch me torment him in the ring and beat him as well.”

The dismissive Quaye warned the event promoters to do better in finding opponents for him.

“I still stand by my prediction to stop him in four rounds. He is no fighter to give me a tough contest in the ring and I want to advise my promoters to be careful in choosing opponents for me because I might end up killing someone,” said Quaye.

On the card’s co-feature, 22-year-old prospect Holy Dorgbetor faces Success Tetteh for the UBO intercontinental and Ghana national featherweight championship.

The undefeated Dorgbetor (7-0, 5 KOs) weighed 125.5 pounds. Tetteh (10-2, 8 KOs) came in at 125.7.

In other bouts, Emmanuel Martey and Naimou Aziz Samson will face each other in a middleweight contest, Tanzania’s Loren Japhet versus Sheriff Kareem of Nigeria in an international super bantamweight contest and Raphael King to fight Emmanuel Allotey at welterweight.

Emmanuel Quartey will slug it out with Billy Quaye in a super featherweight contest while Abraham Afful faces Francis Aryee in a welterweight contest.

Super welterweight Víctor Kuwornu returns to the ring against Armah Tetteh and, in a heavyweight contest, Abdul Ali and Samuel Afoli will square off.
